You Gotta Eat There...
Apparently one of the best parts of the weekend was the discovery of Muddy's Pit BBQ in Keene. Who knew that you could get authentic Southern BBQ without travelling to Louisiana. "I'd go back" was the quote from the teenager in my house. If you didn't make it there this time, sounds like it needs to be on the list for when you are in the area. And on to the hockey....
Friday night in Ennismore
Coach Kelly's assessment: "Got a first hand look at the team we would like to become. Ennismore doesn’t have a ton of skill but they play very well together, don’t ever stop moving their feet and are extremely hard on the puck. Far and away the best team we have seen so far this season. Whitteker’s play between the pipes was a highlight. Not satisfied with the result but we’ll build on the positives." For those that didn't make the trek, the final was 4-1 for the Eagles with the Kings loan marker coming from Tyler Allison from Wyatt Gilbert.
Saturday - PEC Kings Versus Douro Dukes - Kings Hold on for a Win 5-4
Next up was Douro on Saturday evening in Picton. Coach Kelly had this to say "Troubling start as the first period was very sloppy. We made a lot of poor decisions with the puck and gave up far too many odd man rushes. Pulled one out of the fire, but the game should never have been that close." BK opened the scoring in the first period, quickly followed by HVV. In the second period Wyatt Gilbert notched his first goal of the season (apparently tournaments don't count) on a feed from Bryce Marion. Tyler Allison potted one in the 2nd - it was a 4 point night for Allison as he also picked up 3 assists. The winning goal went to Kyle Rutter (from Allison and HVV). Also picking up assists on the night were Chase Lavender, Walker Deroche and Kyle Rutter.
Otonabee Wolves 3 PEC KINGS 3
Otonabee- No pics from Sunday night but sounds like it was a bit of a rough one. From the Coach "Went down two goals and battled back to get a point. Need to ensure we don’t get sucked in by teams like that and try to play a style that doesn’t really suit our make up. Having said that we didn’t back down and we think we have a good idea on what we need to do to get a win Thursday night.
Some timely saves by Connor Cruickshank in a good bounce back effort." Goals went to Foster unassisted; Ward from Young and R Kelly; St.Pierre from VanVlack and B Kelly.
The OEMHL site hasn't been fully updated for all the weekend games yet. Kings are sitting in a tie for 3rd the Bancroft Jets.
